Capital raised in the exempt market helps finance economic activity across Canada and is an important contributor to supporting entrepreneurial business, and creating wealth for Canadian investors. More than $140 billion is raised through exempt distributions in the private markets as reported to the Ontario Securities Commission.
John Risley, President and CEO, Clearwater Fine Foods remarks, "The Canadian economy depends on strong businesses for employment, economic growth and investments. Canadian businesses need access to efficient sources of capital as companies grow and expand – we need to do everything possible to ensure there is a robust funding source ready to support those businesses. The private capital markets are essential for businesses that may not want to be public companies or are simply not yet ready to enter the public markets. Failure to support and grow our private capital markets will hurt Canadian businesses and limit our ability to grow as an economy and a country – and those consequences are scary. Private capital has been critical to my business and to my career in business – I want Canadians to understand the importance of strong private capital markets."
Over 300 industry members will participate including entrepreneurs, exempt market dealers and issuers, legal, accounting, compliance, private equity, venture capital, investment professionals and key regulators. Attendees will receive 5.5 continuing education credits from Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) for attending the 2014 PCMA Private Capital Markets Conference.
Geoffrey Ritchie, Executive Director of the PCMA states: "This is our Third Annual Exempt Market Conference - now called the Private Capital Markets Conference to be held in Toronto.
