The EMDA is appointed to the Ontario Securities Commission
Registrant Advisory Committee

December 13, 2012, Toronto - The Exempt Market Dealers Association of Canada (EMDA) has been appointed to the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) Registrant Advisory Committee (RAC), which will serve as a forum to discuss issues and challenges faced by registrants in interpreting and complying with securities law, including registration and compliance related matters. EMDA Executive Director Geoffrey Ritchie will serve on the OSC committee for a two-year term.

This appointment demonstrates the EMDA’s ability to influence change and its leading role as the national voice of the exempt market.

"We look forward to this opportunity to continue to engage senior regulators on key issues for exempt market dealers and the exempt market in Ontario and across Canada. The OSC should be commended for the initiative to engage the industry and invite more direct feedback on the development of policy and rule making initiatives in Canada’s largest securities market. With key prospectus exemption issues now on the table, and this important new forum to address compliance and registration issues, we feel very positive about the engagement of regulators and their increasing acknowledgement of the importance of a healthy and vibrant exempt capital market in Ontario and across Canada," remarks Geoff Ritchie, EMDA Executive Director.

The EMDA’s appointment to the RAC complements the September 2012 announcement that Brian Koscak, EMDA Chairman was appointed to the OSC’s ad hoc Exempt Market Advisory Committee (EMAC). The EMDA continues to engage senior OSC regulators on why Ontario should enhance its prospectus exemptions and bringing insight into the legal and regulatory issues that create challenges in raising capital to support business growth while ensuring sufficient investor protections.
